Hurricane Beryl

I'm now in Houston. Moved from Sedona June 1. We have not had electricity since last Sunday. Today is Friday. Hurricane Beryl affected us.

Thankfully, we have a natural gas powered generator. It runs constantly. Expensive ($50k cost) but worth it. We haven't had internet since Monday.

Driving thru town on Tues after Beryl, the first areas to get electric were HEB grocery stores! Still today, driving thru town 50 acre-circle, many small businesses still w/o power &/or internet. Grocery stores are powered on. Neighborhoods aren't.

A small Cat 1 did this. High-wind hurricane did this. I live 100 miles from coast. In West Houston.

Amazed how many homes, business w/o power. Amazed how many busy intersections still have no electricity for stoplights. Seen lots of car crashes at intersections.

Why say this? I grew up in Houston. Weathered 4 hurricanes, 10 storms, 2 tornados, 3 floods. Houston was up & running faster after a CAT 2 than today.

Power of The Mind: we have a generator, thank God & rational thinking. We use our phone wifi for internet. Millions of homes & businesses can't.

Houston is not the same town it once was. Resiliency, properly educated people ruling infrastructure- do not exist here anymore. This is how politics affects you. City, county, state inept. Know who you are voting for.

Past storms, electricity linemen from other Gulf Coast states assisted. Like we assisted them after storms (eg Katrina). Why don't we have that now?

Either poor gov, city, county leadership. OR. Nobody wants to work anymore. It's sad to see my city like this.

In 1979 after Alicia, we were more united & strong & resilient. During Harvey 2017, we were better. This was a CAT 1! A high-wind but nothing special storm! What is going on now?

Many people suffering today. Especially the poor & elderly. They lit up HEB grocery stores first. And drove right past poor neighborhoods & small business strip-centers who equally need electricity.

I wonder what happened to my resilient, "get it done" hometown. It's lost its spirit & soul. Still today, 1 Million homes & businesses without power. No flood waters. No obstructions. Just slow-moving infrastructure restoration. High humidity & heat is not good for our elderly & poor communities.
